Arjun Atwal

Will Arjun Atwal, the first Indian-born PGA winner, repeat?

Another Major Championship, another relatively unknown winner. Some people claim this is a sign of the depth of golf right now. With so many players who could win on any given week, the game of golf must really be great. Golf is like the NFL, any given Sunday anyone can emerge victorious. Those people also probably see the glass as half full. I say bullocks. I want a champion to cheer for, a man among boys. Really, I’d like to have an easier time picking the winner, but oh well. So, if you’ve decided to spurn the logical choice of picking the field, here’s the latest fantasy golf picks in this weeks Approach Shot.

Tiger Woods

Can Tiger get #8?

Well look who decided to play. None other than Tiger “Don’t call it a comeback” Woods. Granted, his return comes on a course he’s comfortable playing on. Well, maybe comfortable is the wrong word. A course he DOMINATES. A course he routinely bends over his knee and spanks mercilessly. Woods has won this event seven different times including four of the last six. Can Tiger win this event again this year? Absolutely. Should you pick him to win it all? Not a chance. While Woods hasn’t performed terribly this year, he also hasn’t done anything particularly amazing either. Yet Woods will draw much of the attention going into the event due to past performance, meaning his stock will rise well beyond his true value. So instead of jumping back on the Tiger bandwagon, lets take a look at other potential fantasy golf options in this weeks Weekly Approach Shot.

Fantasy Golf – US Open – Is Rory McIlroy the next Tiger Woods?

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

Is Rory McIlroy taking over for Tiger Woods?

After finishing Saturday, Rory McIlroy is heading to the clubhouse with an aggregate score of 199, the lowest three-round total at the US Open ever. While there is still one more round to go, his performance thus far is reminiscent of Tiger Woods at the 2007 Masters. Tiger finished his third round tied for the lowest 54-hole scoring total ever at the Masters. That tournament signaled the beginning of the Woods era, as he proceeded to break record after record while winning an astounding number of tournaments over the next 10 years. With Woods missing this year’s US Open, is McIlroy going to be the next dominant force in fantasy golf, or will he fade away?

Fantasy Golf – Weekly Approach Shot – Can Phil Mickelson capture his first US Open?

Can Phil finally capture the US Open with TIger out of the way?

When preparing for a Major like the US Open, there are many things players try. Many players have a very specific routine that they go through, from when they get up to what they eat. Most golfers will spend hours practicing at the driving range or on a putting green making sure they’re confident with their stroke. Some golfers have been at the course all week, playing practice round after practice round. And then there is Ben Crane, who has decidedly unique way of prepping for a Major, by creating a music video. Well, I know what I’ll be listening as I get my self psyched up to cheer for my favorite fantasy golfers this weekend. Oh, oh, oh – lets go!
