Apparently, over 100 years of tradition wasn’t good enough for the PGA. With the start o the FedEx Playoff in 2007, the PGA replaced the Western Open by creating the BMW Championship. To say that the Western Open had a good run would be a slight understatement. Originally founded in 1899, the Western was the third oldest active event on the PGA tour when it ended in 2006. Granted, Willie Smith, the first ever winner of the Western Open, probably wouldn’t have minded the change had he been able to exchange his $50 winnings for the $1.26 million the first ever winner of the BMW Championship, Tiger Woods, received. With that, let’s take a look at this week’s fantasy golf picks.

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011Then there were 100. Call them the wonderful one hundred. According to pgatour.com, about 56 of the 100 are locked into advancing to the BMW Championship, where only 70 players will compete. That leaves only 14 spots up for grabs for the remaining 44 players. Granted, that doesn’t mean players will be taking outrageous risks in order to advance. Even Ben Crane, who is currently rank at 100, will likely make the cut if he finishes in the top 17. So as you look to pick players for your fantasy golf roster this week, don’t over value their rankings just because low ranked players “have to win” if they want to stay in the game. Remember there is probably a reason their ranked so low to begin with.
Weekly Approach Shot – Fantasy Golf – Who will use the Wyndham to launch themselves into the FedExCup?
Wednesday, August 17th, 2011Another Major Championship, another relatively unknown winner. Some people claim this is a sign of the depth of golf right now. With so many players who could win on any given week, the game of golf must really be great. Golf is like the NFL, any given Sunday anyone can emerge victorious. Those people also probably see the glass as half full. I say bullocks. I want a champion to cheer for, a man among boys. Really, I’d like to have an easier time picking the winner, but oh well. So, if you’ve decided to spurn the logical choice of picking the field, here’s the latest fantasy golf picks in this weeks Approach Shot.
