Fantasy Racing: The Kobalt Tools 400

Can Jimmie Johnson win his fifth race in his last seven tries in Las Vegas?

Jeff Gordon finally got a monkey off his back last weekend, a 66-race winless streak size monkey to be exact. A streak that spanned more than two years, Gordon finally got back into victory lane winning the Subway Fresh Fit 500. NASCAR is two-for-two so far this season with providing an exciting race as it had multiple lead changes, a fight to the finish as Gordon held off Kyle Busch, and of course the big wreck that took out over half the field. This week Gordon will look to win back-to-back races as NASCAR heads to Las Vegas this weekend for the Kobalt Tools 400.

Track History

The Kobalt Tools 400, which was formerly the Shelby American in 2010 and the Shelby 427 in 2009, has been a part of the NASCAR circuit for 13 years now. Jimmie Johnson has been the big winner recently at this track, winning the race 4 out of the past 6 races. Some other past winners include Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth, who won it two times in a row before Jimmie Johnson started his run of three straight. The 1.5 mile track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway should provide another exciting race this weekend. (more…)

Fantasy Racing: Subway Fresh Fit 500

The Boys square off at the Phoenix International Raceway this weekend.

Last weekend was a great way to start off the 2011 NASCAR and fantasy racing season with a very exciting Daytona 500. I am sure many drivers, like most of the Hendrick Motorsports team, are looking forward to putting that race behind them and getting on with the rest of the season. This week NASCAR travels to Phoenix for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 and I expect it will be another exciting race but I think we will see a more well known driver celebrating in victory lane this week.

Track History

The Subway Fresh Fit 500 is one of the newer races in the NASCAR circuit as Phoenix was awarded this race back in 2005. (more…)

Fantasy Racing: The Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 and the start of the fantasy racing season are just hours away!

It’s time to tighten those seat belts and start those engines because the 2011 Fantasy NASCAR season is here. There is no better way to start the season than with the iconic Daytona 500, which is one of the marquee races of the season.

When talking about a driver’s careers and their place in history, the first question seems to be how many Daytona 500s did they win? Richard Petty won it seven times, Jeff Gordon has won the race three times, and even Dale Jr. has a Daytona 500 win. A win at Daytona can propel a driver’s team or in Jimmie Johnson’s case, five straight championship, as he won the Daytona 500 in 2006.

2011 Fantasy Racing Preview: Roush Fenway Racing

Roush Fenway Racing is looking to leave a stamp in '11.

Roush Fenway Racing has been in NASCAR for over twenty years now and is one of the premiere racing teams in the sport right now. They will have five drivers in the Sprint Cup Series including Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, and David Ragan and have added Trevor Bayne this year. Bayne is not expected to be a full time driver this year and is expected to run in 17 races this year, including the first five races.

They have been successful over the years and won their first two championships in consecutive years before Jimmie Johnson’s dominance took over the sport in 2006. In 2003, Matt Kenseth won the championship and in 2004 Kurt Busch, driving for Roush Fenway Racing at the time, won the second one.

Roush Fenway Racing has put together an impressive team of drivers with the big three being Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, and Greg Biffle who will be working hard to dethrone Jimmie Johnson and bring a championship back to Roush Fenway Racing.
